SMBs are well-schooled when it comes to finding new business software

We asked over 500 SMBs (Small and Medium-sized Businesses) which resources they use when searching for new business software for their organization. While the majority, perhaps unsurprisingly, use search engines such as Google, Yahoo, etc., to start their research process, over 50 percent turn to their peers, and just under half claim to use software review sites, such as GetApp.

More details about the research:

GetApp recently asked over 500 SMBs (Small and Medium Businesses) “Where do you search for new business software?” A huge majority (80%) use search engines like Google or Yahoo, and another 58% say they ask associates or friends. Almost half (45%) said they refer to software review sites like GetApp when choosing new business software.

Those are clearly the top 3 sources, with industry publications/white papers (27%) and trade shows (17%) lagging behind significantly.

The study shows that word-of-mouth is still a hugely predominant force in making purchase decisions, even in business. Of course today's version of word-of-mouth includes online sources, namely software review sites, so remember that if you're not already maximizing your online presence, you need to start doing so as soon as possible.
